Community Meeting Dates Set!

The consultant team will be back in Bettendorf to present progress on the study and gather your feedback.

Please come out and participate on Monday, November 26th at the Bettendorf Waterfront Convention Center. There are two sessions being offered. The afternoon session from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm will include a short presentation with a question and answer session and exhibits on display. The evening session from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm will have exhibits and activities geared to soliciting your feedback from the community.

Facility Profile: Goettsch Community Center

Address: 2204 Grant St, Bettendorf, IA 52722

Date Constructed:  1955

The Community Center is a multi-use facility that features various meeting spaces, catering amenities, youth-sized basketball/volleyball courts, and a food pantry. The facility primarily serves as a year-round gathering place for seniors and small affinity groups or organizations as well as a site for summer recreational volleyball programming. 

Pros:

  • Affordable rentals for athletic groups, community groups, cultural groups, and seniors
  • Located downtown
  • Variety of sizes and spaces to fulfill needs
  • Offers large indoor space for camps during weather events

Cons:

  • Old facility and in poor condition
  • ADA accessibility is a challenge
  • Outdated facility with older finishes
  • Poor restroom / shower facilities

Facility Profile: Life Fitness Center

Address: 2222 Middle Rd, Bettendorf, IA 52722

Date Constructed: 1970

Life Fitness Center is a 68,000 square foot multi-use recreational facility that features indoor
tennis courts, basketball/volleyball courts, a weight room, group exercise rooms, a walking
track, and an indoor lap swimming pool. The facility fills the need in the community for court
sports groups, active older adults, and tennis memberships primarily. 

Pros:

  • Located in the new geographic center of town
  • Long walking / jogging track
  • Good tennis facility
  • Good condition for it's age
  • Indoor pool facility

Cons:

  • Walking track and circulation paths conflict
  • No air-conditioning
  • Pool mechanical equipment nearing end of life
  • Not ADA compliant, renovations would be challenging
  • Parking is a challenge

Facility Profile: Splash Landing Aquatic Center

Date Constructed: 1968

Splash Landing Family Aquatic Center is an outdoor community water park that is composed a main recreation pool, toddler pool, and splash pad.  Located in Middle Park, Splash Landing is local choice for outdoor recreation water in Bettendorf.  It features 6 lap lanes, zero depth entry pools, kiddie slides, body flume slides, a diving board, a drop slide, and numerous spray and play water features.

Pros:

  • Good outdoor recreational water facility
  • Located at the center of Bettendorf
  • Recent renovation to add party space

Cons:

  • Needs family oriented restrooms
  • Parking circulation is problematic
  • Restroom facilities serve the rest of Middle Park
  • Restroom facilities are in need of an update

Project Kickoff

The Parks and Recreation department along with the hired consultant group led by Perkins+Will has kicked off the Recreation Facilities Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study.  This included tours of the existing recreation facilities and reaching out to a number of stakeholders in the local community.
